Beautiful!! I love love love the butterfly as a “quiet riot of endings” and alchemical transformation. Never heard it described quite like that. It will stay with me. Thanks!
I love your image of the butterfly. It is so symbolic and full of meaning. I wanted to share a story I wrote about my own near death experience. Maybe there is something there for you. Take care. "we don’t experience death just once. Physically, in this life, yes—but metaphorically, emotionally, spiritually—we could die and be reborn many times." Wow. I agree with your words here. Thank you for sharing this wonderfully insightful piece. I loved that you invited us to sit and reflect on the dark. 🖤
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your own experience! It truly felt like a miracle—a beautiful reminder to live, live, live to the fullest, after all. :)
I’ve had the same experience. It changed my life completely. No more fear of death. I know it’s all right and all my questions have been answered. Love your poetry Sammy.
Sammi. I’ve had that experience too. It changed my life completely. No more fear of death, I know what it’s like, pure light all the questions I had got answered.
Absolutely amazing poem, Sammi. You said you were unconscious for a while. Do you think you had an after death experience during that period!? (And therefore you woke up feeling differently about it?) Or is your re-evaluation of death based on a conscious processing of how close you came?
Thank you Susan for reading this :) I think it was more of a reflection on death following my near-death experience…

Both the story and the poem feel like a gentle yet powerful invitation to befriend what we’re taught to fear most: the unknown, the endings, the dark.
Thank you for reminding us that the dark is not something to escape, but something to sit with. To learn from. To trust.
🙏💛
